Founded by laureates of the "Un des Meilleurs Ouvriers de France" competition, the association brings together eyewear makers, designers and prototypists trained in precise craftsmanship, passed down by hand from generation to generation in Morez.

Following the success of the first Silmo world optics trade show in 2008, the 14 M.O.F. Lunetiers present at the event decided to create an association to promote their craft, both in France and abroad.
The association's goal is to promote the national Meilleurs Ouvriers de France competition, to raise awareness of the Best Craftsmen in eyewear making, and to support future laureates.
Since 2011, 6 M.O.F. eyewear trainers have come together to create the École des Meilleurs Ouvriers de France Lunetiers, in Morez.
Silmo
Since our first Silmo, we have had the honor of being invited every year to share hands-on eyewear-making workshops with visitors of the world's leading optics trade show, in Paris.

MOF Eyewear School
The eyewear school of the Meilleurs Ouvriers de France trains students in eyewear frame prototyping for the creation of unique, bespoke pieces or small production runs.
Our training approach is based on passing on the experience of M.O.F. eyewear makers to trainees, during classes (one M.O.F. trainer for 3 trainees) as well as through remote follow-up. Tailored courses can be created for optician groups or eyewear and optics companies on selected topics.
For non-French speakers, courses are fully and simultaneously translated into English thanks to our interpreter specialized in eyewear making: Andrew Rynne.
The prototyping training workshop is located in Morez, the historic center of French eyewear making. It is equipped to welcome 6 trainees, each with their own set of equipment and machinery.
All disciplines are covered — hand crafting, machine work, CAD/CNC/laser/3D — for the production of frames in acetate, metal, wood and horn, as well as courses in modifying, adapting and repairing eyewear frames.

Professional training
This training is part of formal professional development. A training agreement is signed with training bodies (for opticians: Forco). A certificate is provided at the end of each course.
Tailored guidance
One Meilleur Ouvrier de France trainer for a maximum of three trainees. Each trainee has their own individual prototyping workbench and all the tools specific to the trade.
Post-training support
Trainees can contact the school for advice and to ask technical questions following the course they attended.
In 2021, the École de lunetterie des M.O.F. Lunetiers committed to a quality approach for its training courses and was recognized as a Qualiopi-certified training organization. The school is also listed under the DATADOCK procedure, facilitating funding support from training bodies.

Since then, I have been able to achieve my goals: I launched my own handmade bespoke eyewear brand, JAUPIN, and I am a designer for several brands. I could never thank the M.O.F. enough — today I live from my passion.
